Discover her Story

Heather Lovan is an abstract and realism artist who enjoys creating pieces that balance emotion, imagination, and real-life detail. Based in the Des Moines area and raised in small-town Iowa, Heather’s work is deeply inspired by both the rejection of the environment she grew up in and her admiration for the world she hopes to be a part of. She expresses this through her abstract work by channeling raw emotion, while her realism pieces reflect the parts of the world that inspire her most.

She expresses her joy for exploring color and spontaneity through her abstract paintings, while also showcasing her passion for realism through her animal artwork. Heather creates her abstract pieces through the exploration of her emotions and mood during the creative process. These works are often completed in a single sitting to preserve the flow of raw creativity. In contrast, her realism pieces take more time and are built in layers, with the final layer serving as the main focus of the piece.

Heather enjoys creating art that brings people together, encouraging conversations about how each piece makes them feel and sometimes uncovering emotions they may not have experienced before. Through her work, she hopes to inspire deeper understanding, connection, and unity in a world where people often feel physically, emotionally, and spiritually disconnected.

Photography also plays an important role in her creative process, helping inspire new ideas while allowing her to capture raw, everyday emotions that can later be translated onto the canvas.
